On the practical side, group therapy is typically priced at 1/2 to 1/3 of individual psychotherapy, making it a cost effective option for mental health support.

Purposeful Design for Black Women's Well-being

Group Details

  • Insurance Accepted (Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare, Medicare) - Insurance coverage subject to verification and eligibility.

  • Who's Welcome? Adult women (18+), self-identifying of African descent, seeking deeper self-connection, fuller presence, and emotional regulation skills.

Sessions:
What to Expect

  • Virtual sessions on a HIPAA-compliant video platform (telehealth).

  • We’ll begin with a yoga practice, integrating movement, mantra, breathing exercises, and meditation. Then, session transitions to include time for psychoeducation, processing, and discussion.

  • Members are encouraged to set aside at least 15 minutes daily for personal practice.

Pre-Group Intake:

An intake is your chance to meet the lead therapist to make sure the group meets your needs and goals. During this 30-minute meeting, you will…

  • Learn about the benefits of group therapy and yoga.

  • Share your thoughts on why you’re considering the group.

  • Discuss your individual counseling focus and explore how the group can complement your progress.

  • Make sure we're a good fit and set some personalized goals.

  • Express any questions or concerns you might have about starting the group.

  • Go over expectations such as attendance, confidentiality, payment, etc., with the lead therapist.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We’ve got you covered! Insurances accepted for these sessions include Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, United, and Medicare. We’ll confirm eligibility, co-pay, etc. before getting started.

  • Prior or current experience in psychotherapy is not required, but may be helpful. If you are planning to use insurance for this group, claims must identify a covered diagnosis to medical/clinical medical service. Your group therapist will go over this in more detail during the intake.

  • Group therapy, led by trained healthcare providers, focuses on lasting changes and proven strategies for mental health challenges. In contrast, support and self-help groups are not always guided by professionals and don’t have a medical/healthcare focus. Both offer fantastic emotional support. Therapist & Registered Yoga Teacher

Kia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years practice in healthcare and community organizations. She integrates treatment techniques like mindfulness and cognitive therapy for her with work adults recovering from complex PTSD, major life changes, and chronic stress. Many of her clients are Black, LGBTQIA+, and/or survivors of violent crime. She is trained in Subtle Yoga® for Mental Health Professionals and the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method (TCYM).
